DigitalOcean is a cloud hosting provider founded in 2012 and headquartered in New York.
Introduction#
DigitalOcean is an American provider of virtual private servers, with its headquarters in New York City. The company offers a range of self-selected capacity options. It operates from existing data centers, including those in New York, Amsterdam, San Francisco, and Singapore. It uses KVM virtualization, high-performance SSD storage, and servers equipped with 1000M ports. With a starting point of 512MB of memory, the monthly cost can be as low as $5. In a short period of time, it has gained popularity and recognition, with over 15,000 servers and 19 employees!
History#
In 2011, Ben Uretsky launched DigitalOcean as a startup company in TechStars, a startup incubator similar to China's Innovation Factory.
In 2012, according to the official website, the company had 22 employees.
In 2013, it managed to compete with cloud service and virtual server providers such as Amazon EC2, Linode, Rackspace, and other well-known cloud hosting companies!
In December 2013, the company had deployed over 500,000 virtual servers, or as the company calls them, "droplets." It was maintaining 514,558 droplets running on approximately 5,000 physical servers. The company has come a long way in just two years, with 15,637 virtual servers according to internal data shared with VentureBeat. The company now has over 50,000 customers.
In March 2014, DigitalOcean completed its Series A funding round, raising $37.2 million, led by Andreessen Horowitz, with participation from existing investors IA Ventures and CrunchFund. The valuation of DigitalOcean in this funding round was $153 million, and the company had previously raised $3.2 million.
In April 2014, it added an Asia-Pacific data center in addition to the three known data centers, expanding its reach to Singapore.

Performance#
DigitalOcean provides customers with scalable virtual private servers that have several important features to differentiate them from competitors. For example, DigitalOcean's services are priced affordably. For as low as $5 per month, users can run a virtual server ("droplet") with 512MB of memory, 20GB of SSD storage, and 1TB of bandwidth. When asked if DigitalOcean can maintain these low prices, Uretsky's answer was quite straightforward: "We have no intention of adjusting the current prices."
